[ox] MoinMoin and MediaWiki (was: 3.2. Weder Tauschen noch Schenken)

* Stefan Matteikat <smatteikat web.de> [2005-11-06 09:41]:
(Thomas proposed a kind of mix between MoinMoin and Mediawiki with
self-acting synchronization of the content;

I suppose it's not trivial to implement such a content synchronization
tool, especially considering locking issues. However, it _is_ possible,
of course.

my question is if there are technical reasons not to install a Mediawiki
onto the Oekonux server)

Well, PHP and MySQL are two reasons not to install a MediaWiki. Apart
from that, running another Wiki engine and keeping it up-to-date would
cost additional server ressources and maintenance work.

I don't quite see the real advantage, as you can simply use MediaWiki
syntax within the MoinMoin wiki due to Stefans MediaWiki parser plugin.
But if there nevertheless is a notable demand for a MediaWiki and if a
reliable synchronization tool exists, I wouldn't a priori refuse to do
the work.

However, the number of people working on the _content_ of the wiki is
still very small. As Karl noted already, this probably wouldn't be
changed by providing yet another wiki engine or by switching the
license. I'd therefore say it doesn't make much sense to discuss these
questions over and over again.
