oekonux does not cover the whole world.

if the goal is "basis for a new society" then i think it should cover a lot
of the world. sure: the focus is on the questions of how to apply the ideas
of the production of free software onto society and this gives a certain
scope but then the ideas might be applicable to areas not forseen at first
glance....

then the point is: the idea of a "new society" is rather useless without a
path leading to it and without people who want to implement it.... this also
widens the scope.

But what is "practice" exactly?

see above. if the "new society" is the topic then "practice" can be a lot of
things. but i would say the most useful field of practice is where people
are actually seeking to transform the world and seeking to implent a
different society.. these people gather at the social forums.

If it is gathering on the streets and fighting with police, many people
would say: this is not my practise.

all the social forums have been extremly peaceful. the places where you find
violence is where there are protests against institutions of the current
world. it is exactly for this reason that the socialforums have been
founded: that violence on the street is not the solution. we need to sit
together and discuss other solutions (that is: build theory).

(not that i think that the protests are useless. they are very much
necessary but they are not enough..)

so back to the questions: could "gathering on the streets" be a topic for an
oekonux discussion? i think yes. first the organisation of protests is an
exchange of information via the net and thus it is similar to the
organisation of a software project. second: even the protests itself are an
interesting form of group dynamics where some ideas from the group of
developers would be applicable..

ok, the second part is a bit far fetched but the first example is real..

But I hate if people attack theory by assuming people do not value
practice. my point is: He who values practice values theory! As simple as
that. If somebody strives for doing the right thing and doing things right
and wants to figur that out, theory is needed. Oekonux means theory about
practice for the improvement of practice.

i completly agree with this.
