Re: [ox] Re: [ox-en] goal of oekonux, theory vs. practice, the new social movements and the left

Hi Graham and all!

One additional comment on this.

no means have in Vienna in a university?

I would hope that an oekonux conference that was part of the ASF would
attract new people and new ideas from among those attending the ASF.
Especially in areas of overlap; eg.

- areas which are information but not software based, such as people
involved with genetics

- areas where people are fighting against laws related to but not
identical to those faced by free software, such as anti-TRIPS activists,
etc.

Maybe this is naive of me, I have never been involved with any of the
Social Forums.

But it would be possible to invite these people to the Oekonux
conference - wouldn't it? Actually I think on the speaker side there
is very little overlap which can not be resolved in one or the other
way. I guess most of the organizations which have one speaker for the
ASF have another one for the Oekonux conference.

Regarding the audience see the following point.

Also (and negatively) I would be afraid that the two conferences will
appeal to the same audience - and that if the two conferences are
simultaneous, only members of the oekonux list will turn up at the oekonux
conference and everyone else will got to the ASF. It seems unlikely to me
that people who do not know Vienna will travel across town to a conference
created by an organisation they have never heard of.

It's actually 300km away (according to FranzN).

The Oekonux conferences until now did not attract local people mainly.
IMHO this reflects the virtual character of the project. The Austrian
Social Forum, however, as the name says is a national event and thus
attracts mainly people from Austria. As I said I think there will be
some overlap but it won't be substantial.

						Mit Freien Grüßen
